Bentivegni, Franz Eccard von, born on 18-07-1896 in Potsdam 
, from an old family of soldiers. His father fell as an Oberstleutnant in World War I. Franz joined the Army on 22-07-1915, as a Fahnenjunker in the 2nd Garde Field Artillery Regiment and became the rank of Leutnant. He came to the Western front and was wounded 
in hospital in Namen, Belgium, for a few weeks. After World War I, Bentivegni remained in the new Reichswehr 
and got the post of First General Staff Officer in the 26th Infantry Division 
under command of General der Infanterie Sigismund von Förster 
. Förster died 12-01-1959, age 71, in Bremen. A new 26th Volksgrenadier Division was formed on 17-09-1944 in the Warthelager, near Poznan by absorption of the 582nd Volksgrenadier Division and remnants of the old 26th Infantry Division. This new division spent the rest of the war on the Western Front under Army Group B 
, under Field Marshal, Walter Model

until it entered U.S. captivity in the Harz in 1945. In this Ruhr Pocket Field Marshal Model collapsed and committed suicide, by gun. Bentigvegni came into the command of the Wehrmacht and Bentivegni was in the counter-espionage business for the Abwehr between March 1939 to March 1944. He led a special conference on 04-11-1939 in Cologne, where the set in of the Secret Field Police, Geheimen Feldpolizei or Einzatzgruppen, in Poland, was analyzed. There were proofs that the Secret Field Police was participated in the mass murder of Soviet Jews in Babi Jar.
He was imprisoned as war criminal and condemned to 25 years in a labour camp. In 1955 he was released and came back to Germany, thanks the strains of the Chancellor Konrad Adenauer.

He lived till he died, at the age of 61, on 04-04-1958, in the city of Wiesbaden.
