joined the Army on 22-03-1912, age 17, as a Leutnant of the 119th Grenadier Regiment and was in the fields of the first war as a Platoon Leader in the 5th Company of the 119th Grenadier Regiment. He was wounded
captured by the Italians on 28-10-1917 and until 13-02-1919 imprisoned. He was allowed in the new Reichswehr
and with the outbreak of World War II he was Chief of Welfare and Supplying Department OKW
, until 01-04-1943. He became Inspector of POW affairs, to 01-04-1944. He landed in the Führer Reserve OKH (see Adolf Hitler) (did you know) and on the same time detached to the 305th Infantry Division, nickname “Bodensee Division”

, for training as a Divisional Commander, until 12-07-1944. Graevenitz was commander of the 237th Infantry Division until his Yugoslavia captivity, to 20-10-1950. The 392nd (Croatian) Infantry Division
under an Austrian-born Generalleutnant Johann Mickl
commanded by about 3.500 German officers, non-commissioned officers and specialists. To control the Vratnik pass through the mountains from Senj to Brinie, General Mickl personally took part in the fighting and was shot in the head around noon. He was transported to hospital in Rijeka on a tank, but died on 10-04-1945, age 51. It was commonly known as the Blue Division. The division participated in the clearing of Partisans from the island of Korcula

After his release he lived in Stuttgart, where he at the age of 69 died, on 09-12-1963. Von Graevenitz is buried on the Waldfriedhof of Stuttgart, alas his gravestone is removed. On the same cemetery are buried the WWII General der Infanterie, Kommandeur “Kommando von Bünau”, Rudolf Bunau,
